I’m Keshia Thomas “My parents, my children and I are all successful products of FUSD. As a teacher my priority has alway been to guarantee my student have a quality instruction.
Our students deserve a quality education and I promise to always put the NEEDS OF OUR STUDENTS FIRST.”
My name is Keshia Thomas, I am a life-long Fresno native. I am also 1991 Iota Phi Lambda Debutante. I have been in education for the last 15 years. I owe the success in my life to education. I was fortunate to have had parents that never questioned whether or not I would attend college. Although I was not born with a silver spoon in my mouth education has been the foundation of a successful career and the stability to instill the same values in my children and my students. All of this has led me to know my true passion, which is serving the students of Fresno Unified School District as a Trustee. I have decided to put together a campaign to become the next Fresno Unified Trustee in Area 1, which serves the Edison High Region.
Prior to beginning my career in education, I completed a vocational class and became a Licensed Cosmetologist, not satisfied with that career; I worked in the retail grocery business and became a Journeyman Cashier and supervisor. While working as a cashier I attended college and obtained a Bachelor of Art and Master Degree in Education. Knowing and obtained my Teaching Credentials, in order to pursue my passion.
I began my education career teaching Algebra and Geometry at one of our local charter schools, and have been employed as teacher in Fresno Unified as a 7-8th grade math instructor. I’ve been very fortunate in my career in education, along with being a classroom instructor I’ve held an administrative position as the director of a Careers Program where I was responsible for helping students’ transition from high school into the workforce, this transition led me to pursue my administrative credential. Once I obtained my Administrative Credential this allowed me to have a more permanent role in administration, as a Vice Principal. Being a Vice-Principal was one of the most rewarding experiences I’ve ever encountered. I have since transitioned back into the classroom to become more accessible to my youngest son where I am happy and honored to serve students I love and enjoy.
I spend time giving back to my community as Assistant Director of the homeless ministry through our Women’s Missionary Union where I prepare and serve meals carrying on the legacy of my Grandmother Jimmie Echols (retiree from Edison High School) whom I served meals with for 25 years. I also serve as Assistant Director of the Children’s Church at Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church where I am a lifelong member.
I have three wonderful children and one grandson of whom I’m extremely proud of. My daughter Lechet is the oldest and a college graduate who has given me my most prized possession, my grandson (Robert Jr.), she is married to Robert Golden an Edison Graduate and a college graduate who plays for the Pittsburg Steelers. My middle son C.J. is in his freshman of college and is a proud Edison Tigers Graduate. My youngest Jacob is in his first year of middle school. The things that inspires me most is my children and my students. Every day they give me the motivation to be better and strive for excellence as a lifelong learner and educator.
